I struggled against it for a time and then I let my mind wander. As I did so the beginning of a story flowed in, complete with title, Contract with a Guardian.
I loved that story. I loved the idea of writing a longer, young adult story and committed to writing every morning. I devoted many mornings and many hours and got about half-way through. Then I bogged down. It wasn’t so exciting anymore. It felt more like work. I thought to take a break from it for a while. I printed out most of what I had, backed up my computer and put it out of my mind. Sometime later I was startled to come across a novel by a new, young author that had a similar story beginning. Spirit plants many seeds, some sprout, some don’t. Along about that time, I downloaded a virus onto my computer that destroyed all my Word documents. Additionally, the back ups were no where to be found, lost somewhere in several home relocations. I took all this as a sign from the Universe that continuing this story was not meant to be and I let it go entirely. Fast forward fifteen years and I’m up in the attic, searching around in old files for something totally unrelated. What do I come across but my unfinished story? I couldn’t resist it. That evening I sat with a pile of printed pages in my lap and read through the whole thing. It still twanged my heart strings. It’s time now for me to reawaken what I began so long ago, and see where it leads. So, begging your indulgence, I will publish my rewrite of this story here on Soul Doors. I will post it in series form one chapter at a time, as I write and rewrite it. It is my hope that you will enjoy it, or the young people in your circle will. Fantasy is imagination, creativity, fun and play. Let’s let our inner children out and play together!
